ACCOUNTS CLERK

CIMPEX CREDIT UNION

 

Job Purpose:    

The Accounts Clerk is responsible for supporting the Credit Union’s operations by performing various accounting and clerical tasks. This includes maintaining financial records, processing transactions, assisting with account reconciliations, and providing administrative support to ensure efficient financial operations. The Accounts Clerk plays a critical role in ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with credit union policies and financial regulations.

Authorised to:

  • Document business transactions of the Credit Union’s membership.

  • File accounting and other documentation.

  • Make bank deposits and/or withdrawals on behalf of the Credit Union and disburses cheques.

  • Record correspondences on behalf of the Credit Union.

  • Assist members with loan applications and membership enrolment.

 

Liaises with:   Internally – Other members of staff, Committee Members and BOD

Externally – Members of the Society/ Stakeholders of the Society/ Bankers, Ministries/Departments

Major Duties:

  • Documents the business transactions of the membership in accordance with the instructions and guidance of the Office Manager. Such documenting shall include and involve posting of the following:

  • Cash Receipt Book

  • Members Ledger

  • Any other postings or documentation

  • Enters the data outlined above into a computerized database after verification by the Accounting Officer.

  • Maintains appropriate records for accounting and other documentation as prescribed by the Office Manager.

  • Make deposits and withdrawals from the bank,

  • Disburses cheques and keeps records of such disbursements.

  • Assists with the typing of reports and letters.

  • Records incoming and outgoing correspondences and posts and/or delivers such correspondences.

  • Maintains an efficient filing system

  • Reviews emails and respond accordingly

  • Communicates with the membership via digital platforms (e.g. emails etc) and traditional methods (e.g. letters and memo)

  • Receives and assists members with loan applications and membership enrolment.

  • Performs other related duties assigned by the Office Manager.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

  • A minimum of five (5) CXC/CSEC passes; three (3) of these subjects must be Mathematics, English and Principles of Accounts

  • At least two (2) years’ experience in the role as an accounts clerk

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Word and Power Point)
